Who Cares About Racial Profiling?

January 18th 2007 16:08
This Picture Says it All.

Recently (this week) I have written a couple of news articles for a site that I freelance with. The reason I am blogging about it here on my Alternative Faith site is because the 2 articles have to do with religion. Earlier this week a man was awarded $400,000 by the courts in Boston. American Airlines was found guilty in an incident where the man of Portuguese decent was removed from a flight, along with the 2 Israeli men beside him. The “authorities” questioned him for 2 hours and then the airline REFUSED to put him on another flight. He sued because of supposed “racial profiling” and has been awarded a total of $400,000 in damages.

In another story, yesterday Northwest Airlines caved to a Muslim group in Detroit. The group threatened to “boycott” the airline, and not only the members of the group but a widespread Muslim led boycott…unless they apologized for something that happened on the 7th of January and also compensated the disgruntled group as well. In this case there were 40 Muslim pilgrims trying to return to the US via Germany (they were returning from the Hajj) and were not allowed to board the plane. It turned into the Muslims saying one thing and the employees of the airline saying something different. So who was to say what actually happened? The Muslim group stated that they were at the gate at least 90 minutes ahead of time, while the employees said it was only 20 minutes. Well, there are certain guidelines for boarding international flights, so they were not allowed to board and continue into the US.

But that wasn’t the only problem. Apparently there were some tickets with incorrect information and some of the luggage from the flight they were on before was not present, nor did some of them have luggage receipts. So what ended up happening was some of the pilgrims ended up sleeping in the airport while others had to pay for hotel rooms and they didn’t get reimbursed on the spot. They were allowed to board the next available flights, however….but that wasn’t good enough. Once they returned to the US, they claimed they had been racially profiled and started making demands that resembled a Jihad on the airline.

Now, let’s add these 2 stories together (even though the 1st guy wasn’t even “Muslim” as far as we know) and then put it together with another story from last year where 6 Imams had been removed from a US Airways flight for acting suspicious. The Imams threatened the airline with a Muslim boycott and even a possible lawsuit. Why are we allowing this to happen….just because they are Muslim???

On Fox and Friends (Fox News) this morning (Jan. 18th) they were discussing the latest event with NW airlines and actually had author Brigitte Gabriel on to discuss it. She was raised in Lebanon and has written a book named “Because they Hate”. She was trying to point out how the Muslims are trying to “test” the waters with the airlines now. It seems like one after another is trying to basically push the envelope on what they can get away with. I have made this assumption myself recently and I was glad to hear someone else actually say it on a national news channel. It seems to me that with the airlines giving in to so many demands from the Muslim groups that they are beginning to lose power.

In the case where the man was awarded money, the pilot had made the call to remove the passengers and have them detained. How will this affect the way they react in the future? Will they be afraid to remove any potential threat if they are not “white”, just so they won’t be accused of racial profiling and possibly lose their jobs? Will this begin to trickle down to the actual security measures taken in the airport? Maybe they will stop checking anyone that may possibly be “middle eastern” or even “Muslim” just so they won’t have to hear rants about racial profiling.

Let’s face it….the men that took over the flights on 9/11 were MUSLIMS and they were mostly of middle eastern decent. They were not old white women or blonds with big boobs….they were of a specific faith and from specific regions of the world. So what is so wrong with detaining someone based on the fact that they are acting odd and they happen to not be white? I would expect them to detain the person for acting odd, no matter what color their skin was or what God they prayed to! If it came down to a little old white woman causing a problem on a flight then remove her!

I believe Ms. Gabriel had commented this morning about how maybe Muslims should have their own airline to make it easier on the rest of us and them. I’m all for that. Of course, then you would get complaints about them being “regulated” more than the average airline….ummm….you think? The fact is that Americans are still leery of Muslims since 9/11….no matter what they say, there is still doubt in their minds. And unfortunately until terrorism can be completed wipe out, there will always be fears. Muslims need to come to terms with this and move on. And for Goddess sake…stop complaining about flying and being “profiled”. Even though there may be incidents where a Muslim is actually being profiled for no reason, on the average it doesn’t happen. So if you are Muslim and flying…try to be normal. Don’t act suspicious and cause problems and chances are you will make it to your destination as well.
