Harry Forever, Mallory No More
December 15th 2006 16:15
Finally, the battle against Harry Potter that has been raging in Georgia has been ended. I blogged earlier about the case against Harry Potter. Laura Mallory, certifiable Christian wacko and mother, wanted the school board to remove the Harry Potter books from the school library and be replaced with the Left Behind series. Why? Not only because she’s nuts and a fundy, but also because she thinks that the books promote Wicca and witchcraft…which apparently is the root of all evil. So instead of spending quality time with her children and educating them on what she deems to be right and wrong, she decided to go on this escapade to get Harry banned from the schools. If at first you don’t succeed, right? That must be her motto. She lost the battle once back in May and decided to appeal and try again.
However, much to her dismay, she has lost the battle. As of yesterday the 14th, the school board of Gwinnett County has officially told her to take a flying leap. Unfortunately for the free thinkers of this district, she still has the right to appeal to the Gwinnett Superior Court. There has been no proof as of yet that this nutjob will continue to ignore her children and ostracize them any further so she can live out her life long dream of getting rid of witchcraft and all of its evils, including Harry Potter.
So this is good news not only for the kids of the school district, but also J.K Rowley. After all, publicity no matter what the extent is good publicity, right? So, I’m wondering how much this little conquest has backfired on Ms. Mallory. How has her children suffered during her rants? Does she sleep better at night knowing that she has stood up for good and tried to combat evil? For some reason I don’t think we’ve heard the last from her. She’s had a taste of publicity and now she’ll probably be on a rampage to save us all. This is what Ms. Mallory had to say about the verdict: “But…if just one family was helped – one parent, one child looked into the books a little more closely and how it is mainstreaming witchcraft – then I think it’s worth the battle”.
I think I would like to actually thank her for bringing so much attention to witchcraft and Wicca. This ordeal has been all over the media nationwide and it has gotten tons of people talking about not only Harry Potter but also what Wicca and witchcraft actually is. It has given those in the Pagan community a chance to speak more freely about their beliefs and it has also prompted people to ask more questions about what the Pagan beliefs are actually about. So I say “Bravo” to Nutjob Mallory. Thanks for failing miserably in your attempt to “save” us all from evil, where in you actually started a deeper discussion on the good of pagans and neo-pagans. I think I want to give her a big “Happy Holidays” shout out! Well done! I guess we’ll see soon enough if her quest continues. She’s probably going to take a break for Christmas, so I’m sure this is to be continued.
