Catholics Gone Wild

November 6th 2006 16:15
Catholics A-"Salt" Pagans

The Abbey

Apparently in Glastonbury, the Catholics have had it with the Pagans. It is the clash of the religions that has been going on since the dark ages. Catholic pilgrims (called Youth 2000) were marching through Glastonbury and decided to attack Pagans and also threaten to “cleanse” them from the town. During the procession, they called the Pagans “witches” and pelted them with salt. They also attacked a Pagan shop, The Magick Box, which was along the way of their pillaging and plundering celebration.

OOPS! Wrong example of Throwing Salt.

According to the owner of the shop, Maya Pinder, the so called loving group of God fearing Catholics threw salt into the faces of people at the store and yelled such off colored comments such as “burn the witches”. Apparently they were also very openly stating how they would “cleanse” Glastonbury of paganism. Here is the part of the article where I roll my eyes and sigh deeply. There has been so much of this “crap” going on lately that I am almost exhausted from reading it all. Maybe if the Catholic church was not losing their parishioners faster than they can say “Hail Mary full of grace”, then they wouldn’t be performing such idiotic bigotry. All they are doing is making their religion look even worse. You would think they would learn to lay low after all of the sex scandals with the priests and the little boys all over the world. But apparently none of them are this smart. If I were the Pope, I would have been on a jet down there rounding them all up and dowsing them with holy water until they stopped being stupid.

So why did this happen in the first place? Glastonbury is a predominately pagan town and has lots of pagan visitors as well. So what got the Catholic’s panties in a bunch to the point that they had to march through town and do this? Well Father Knox-Lecky of St. Mary’s church said that after speaking with the pagan community, the Youth 2000 group would not be invited back anymore. To cover his butt he said, “A family appeared who we don't know, who were very destructive not only in the town and to the pagan community, but were also swearing at our parishioners as well.” I am going to entrust that his statement is true and basically just sad that one of the supporters would swear at parishioners there as well.

Burn 'em at the stake...again

Here is what Youth 2000 supposedly is: “an independent, international initiative that helps young adults aged 16-35 plug back into God at the heart of the Roman Catholic Church.” The managing director, Charlie Connor, stated “Youth 2000 does not condone or encourage this kind of behavior from anyone. We fully agree that differences on matters of faith cannot and should not be resolved by any kind of harassment”. As much as I would like to believe him, I personally do not. They apparently were very aware of the fact that Glastonbury was thriving with paganism, yet still allowed the march to take place. This would be like getting a group of Pagans and marching through Vatican City. I know they supposedly were marching to mark the 467th anniversary of the beheading of Richard Whiting, the last abbot of Glastonbury Abbey, but why? Yes, celebrate what you want….but when you do something like this knowing full well who lives, works, and vacations in this town then shame on you. What were they expecting? Let me guess…Pagans and Catholics would join hands and dance in the street with joy and love and then in the end the Pagans would find the “light” and come to Jesus. No matter what the reason was, this was stupid planning on their part.

I wasn’t too aggravated with this story, just tired of hearing it, until I read this statement from the arch druid of Glastonbury, Dreow Bennett, “To call the behavior of some of their members medieval would be an understatement. I personally witnessed the owner of the Magick Box being confronted by one of their associates and being referred to as a bloody bitch and being told 'you will burn in hell'.” What would possess someone to be this hateful to another person that they don’t even know? It makes the thought of Catholicism being peaceful and loving a crazy notion. Maybe next time, if there is a next time, they should have priests on hand to perform exorcisms, because apparently some of the marchers acted so vile they needed to have their “demons” driven out. I can’t wait to see how the Pope ends up “spinning” this one! He probably will try to ramble off something about the Nazi’s being born of neo-paganism again. Or how about how he apparently does not support interfaith, unlike his predecessor Pope John Paul II? But that’s an entirely different can of worms, so we won’t go down that road.

WWPBD? What Would Pope Benedict Do?

However, as a clincher, supposedly Father Kevin Knox-Lecky offered his resignation in light of what took place during the gathering. If this is true…why? Maybe some feelings of guilt by association, who knows.

Choking for Jesus

November 3rd 2006 18:47
A Sacrifice for Faith

I’m not sure where this man got his religious information from, but even I as a Wiccan am aware that Jesus would not want a follower to choke their child to death as a sacrifice! Apparently a man from Tennessee decided it would be a good idea to choke his 2 year old son to death as a sacrifice to God. I have no idea what would cause someone to do this, except for a mental illness. The thing is that he is also married and you would think that his wife would not allow him to be alone with the child, especially since she knew he had a mental illness for years!!!!

So, the prosecutors cut him a deal and only gave him probation as long as he undergoes mental health treatment. WTF? Yes, I agree that he needs help, HOWEVER someone needs to be blamed for this incident. What about the child? He has to grow up with the fact that his own father tried to choke him to death for God and Jesus! Apparently had the wife not torn her son away from him, he probably would have succeeded. She admitted that he has battled mental illness for many years. She also said “he would become psychotic and start talking about God and Jesus and religion."

So who is to really blame for this?
Who's at Fault?
The article doesn’t state if the man was being medicated or had been seeing a professional for his mental illness. If this man was not being treated then who is at fault? I would think it would partially be the wife at fault, especially if he is too mentally impaired to realize that he is not mentally stable and needs help. I really can’t believe that neither the husband nor wife was charged with really any wrong doing here! Yes, get him the help he needs, but someone needs to be held accountable for what this little boy had to go through. The article also did not state whether the child remains with the family or if he was placed in foster care, for fear of another episode occurring.

What ever the outcome with the child was, I surely hope that they are taking all the steps needed to make sure this little boy is not psychologically harmed by what happened. I understand he is only 2 years old, but things can tend to remain subconsciously for a lifetime. Plus, what about the media coverage? I’m sure if he doesn’t remember later on in life, then he will be reminded somehow at sometime by the media.

Another funny thing about this story…do you honestly think that if this was a non-Christian person (Muslim, Wiccan, Hinduist, etc) having tried to choke their child to death as a sacrifice to their God, that they would have been given the same sentencing? I highly doubt it.
