We CAN All Get Along!

November 20th 2006 21:04
It's a Miracle!

I knew it! See? There are actually forward-minded people on this planet that honestly believe that all religions can get along. According to the Capitol Times in Madison, WI there was an “interfaith celebration of Thanksgiving” last Sunday. Apparently there were nearly 100 attendees of all different faiths and religions.

They had religious leaders from different backgrounds such as Roman Catholic, Buddhist, Lutheran, Wiccan, Muslim, Jewish, and several others. They all got together and played nice…it was amazing. There was no Christian bashing, or “witch” burning. No jokes about Jews, nor anything off-colored about Muslims and Islam. It was a group of people getting together to support and show religious tolerance…and it actually worked. I have heard nothing about the downside of the event or anything bad taking place. It was basically a joyous and peaceful celebration where each religion got to celebrate the way they know how. No finger pointing or anything.

So this goes to show that we all CAN get along together if we so choose. I believe it is always the “bad apples” of the groups that tend to mess things up and start controversy. If it weren’t for all of the fundies and nut jobs then we could all just live peacefully together. Will it ever happen? I doubt it. Especially when you tend to hear more about the bad things than the good things, such as this.

This reminds me of my wedding. I got married in custom made 8 ft wings, had a Wiccan priestess and a Christian minister, carried a Bible with my boquet, and jumped the broom - and since I was married on Beltane, we had the May Pole dance at the reception as well! There truly was something for everybody. *smiles* - The men wore cloaks and the flower girls wore wings, and the two maids of honor carried wands with their boquets.

I'm a full advocate for celebrating our differences.

Yes, indeed - with a bit of respect and tolerance, there can be unity.

Great post!
