HONORING THE LARES...

A Household Protection Ritual
In Roman times, January 12th was the date when the Lares were honored for their help. What are Lares you may ask? They are the household gods that were/are believed to reside in each home and were thought to protect the household and its inhabitants. That celebration was the Compitalia.
It is thought that each of us has a protector or Lares. If you feel you don’t have a household protector, perhaps it’s because you’ve not been paying enough attention to them. Try providing a focal object for them to reside in. It could be a statue that calls to you, or a beautiful crystal formation or a bowl of stones. I have several in the way of stones, crystals and a mini Buddha statue that was a gift to me many years ago. It’s a good idea to say hello to them as you pass by, or to acknowledge them in some manner regularly. Light a bit of incense for them, place a tiny flower or plant near them and let them know that it is for them, that you do these things.
When you need that extra protection, or feel the need to call upon the Lares for additional help in protecting your home and hearth. This is a ritual you can perform that doesn’t take a lot of work…but will garner a lot of positive energy and benefits.
First this ritual should be done during the waxing moon cycle.
You’ll need the following items. An incense that reminds you of the woods and greenery and wild places, a green candle, your wand should be beside the green candle. If you’ve selected your guardian’s place of residence, i.e. statue, crystal, rock, you’ll want to decorate the immediate area around your guardian. Use pine cones, miniature statues of forest animals, (deer, Squirrels, etc.) Ivy or holly, (live is better, but silk will work too).
This should be a celebratory event and almost considered a birthday party for your Lares…so by all means, have food and drink and celebrate.
Light the incense and the green candle, while you stand before your altar and recite:
Guardian spirits, I invite you to join me here at this altar, you are my friends, and I wish to thank you.
Take the incense and circle the guardian symbol three times, moving clockwise (deosil), then say:
I thank you for the atmosphere you help to keep clean and pleasant in this home.
Then move the candle clockwise around the symbol three times and say:
I thank you for the light you send to purify and dispel the darkness.
Picking up your wand in your power hand, encircle the symbol three times clockwise and recite:I
I ask for your continued help and protection for me, my family, my pets, and my property. I ask that you drive away trouble makers, thieves, and others, physical and non-physical, who are bent on evil disruptive purposes. I thank you for your friendship and love.
Stand with your arms upraised and say:
Lovely Goddess, and Lord of the Greenwood, I present to you the guardian(s) of this house, the special spirit(s) I have invited into my home. I honor this/these guardian(s) in this/these symbol(s) of its/their being(s). Bless this/these guardian(s). And to your blessings, I add my thanks for its/their protection and friendship.
For the next several minutes hold the guardian(s) in your hands and mentally express to them that they’re important to you. If you have food and drink…invite them to party with you. The Lares are sensitive to light touch and soft whispers…so speak sweetly and touch lightly. After you’ve finished your birthday party with them, make sure to thank them for their presence at your ritual. This ritiual can be performed once a month, once a year, or whenever you feel the need for their special protective energies. Please do make it an annual celebration for them, and they'll look out for you. Blessings on your home, untill next time...White Willow
