MERRY MEET AND GREETINGS...

March 27th 2008 15:05

Welcome to Alternative Faith. I have taken on the task of being the new moderator of this site and will be posting many thoughts, ideas, insights according to me. Grin. I welcome you to explore this site and add your comments as you feel inspired, but also understand this is not a venue to vent your hatred or prejudices. This is a venue toward understanding and peace. So with that said...Welcome and I look forward to a long journey with you.

It is exciting and a little daunting to have ones own web site that will be seen by hundreds, perhaps thousands of readers. Along with the queasy feeling one gets when embarking on some new adventure, is the thrill that perhaps one or two people will find something worthwhile in what you've had to say. Just maybe , someone will glean a nugget of wisdom, or a shred of insight from a few words that you've penned or written. That is my goal on this site called Alternative Faith. To share what we can with one another and to join with others in the pursuit of something more.

I am Michelle White Willow, Michelle is my given name while, White Willow is my chosen name. I have been an eclectic Wiccan for many years now, but have a deep and abiding respect for all religious beliefs. Throughout this format, I will attempt to inform others about my own lifestyle (I say lifestyle rather than religion), because being wicca or pagan means you've made an intentional choice to follow a diferent path and live a different lifestyle. Maybe this new path is the one that makes more sense to you and if truth be told, has been calling to your for a while, and maybe you'd like to find out more without joining an online school. If you're not ready to sign up but want to know more, you've come to the right place. Be at ease and be welcome.

So with that being said, I will end this brief introduction and will be posting more very shortly.
May you walk in the light and...Blessed Be

White Willow

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in the world of religious news. Maybe it was a result from the lunar eclipse a couple of weeks ago, but the Pope decided to write a book about Pope John Paul II. In the book he stated that he thought Bob Dylan (yes, the singer) is a “false prophet”. This all came from a concert that Dylan performed at in front of John Paul years ago. Needless to say, Pope Benedict is a very “interesting” character. You can go HERE to read the full story.

More recently in the news is a Reverend in Miami, FL that is staking his claim on being the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. Apparently he has approximately 100,000 followers in the US and parts of Latin America. Many of the followers, especially the Hispanic followers, tend to give this “man” nearly half of their income. So while people are struggling he is “blinged out” in gold and diamond jewelry and a very nice suit. The front page of the website for the church is mostly an enormous picture of the good Reverend, who by the way used to be a heroin addict. You can go HERE to read the full article on his “holiness”.

In other news and “chit-chat”, it seems that since Cameron released the “Tomb of Jesus” on the Discovery Channel Christians are beginning to vent about how much they are being persecuted over the past couple of years. After being hounded and slammed by atheists and people in other religious groups they are beginning to stand up and ask “why me”? I guess it was okay when Jews, Pagans, and Muslims were being ridiculed….but when Christianity has been questioned and “bashed” then it’s just not right.

There are several other things going on recently as well, but I will refrain from blogging about them since I am in somewhat of a time crunch this week with moving and school work. One of the topics is the new movie “300”…apparently Iranians are up in arms over the way Persians are depicted in the movie….like you didn’t see that coming. It seems to me that nobody is allowed to say or do anything to offend anyone on this planet. So much for right of creativity and freedom of speech.

Well, we have famous poster boys for various other religions and now Islam will have Michael Jackson as there supporting figure. I’m sure they’re thrilled with this. I know, some of you are reading this and thinking that it’s still just speculation. Well, according to the Post, he actually confirmed his conversion to Islam to the Panorama (an Arab-Israeli newspaper in the Middle East). The king of pop has apparently announced that he has bought property in Bahrain and will also be moving there.

Islam is not a stranger to the Jackson family, however. Michael’s brother Jermaine is Muslim and has been since 1989. Supposedly Michael began asking his bro some questions about Islam shortly after he was acquitted of child abuse in 2005. So why is Michael converting or at least thinking of converting? (I say “thinking”, since he has not publicly announced his conversion and at this point I still consider it word of mouth) Could he want to convert and move to the Middle East because they have more lenient laws about children and so forth, or is it because he actually wants to be more good and peaceful? I am hoping it is for the peace and goodness, but it’s so hard to say.

So, even though there are other famous Muslims in the US, why will Michael be their poster child? Well, because he’s so “out there”. Mohammed Ali is getting a lot older and not in the public eye as much. Michael on the other hand can’t stand to stay out of the public eye. So if he actually has or will convert, all Muslim the world over should welcome their newest brother…Michael Jackson.

Let’s take a peek at some of the other famous figures that support other religions. The Catholics have Mel Gibson, the Jews have SEVERAL and too many to list, and the Scientologist have Tom Cruise in all his wacky glory.

So good for Michael and good for the US. He will be taking up residency in Bahrain and will no longer be here in our country. Quite frankly, I find everything about him creepy, but that’s MY opinion. Now he can be there problem, if a problem were to arise. Do you think he might start singing in Arabic or Farsi as well? And I think that may explain part of the reason why he covers the faces of his children, but I won’t go into why he actually covers them. And, do you think he will dress as a male Muslim or a female…or will he mix it up? So many questions and so many answers to be given…

Anyway, I’m sure somebody will read this and get riled up since I made the comment about the Middle East having more lenient laws about children and other things. It always seems that the truth always makes people angry and gets them up in arms over various things. Quite interesting really.

Muslim Complaint #5,765,435 and Climbing

February 23rd 2007 16:29
The Muslim community, but not all of it, has decided to begin their complaining in another country besides the US. The latest list of demands are targeted at Britain and their State school system. The Muslim Council of Britain has released a demand to “ban” all “un-islamic” activities in the schools. They actually want ALL children to be taught in a Taliban type condition, whether Muslim or not. What would be affected by the “ban”? School plays, vaccinations, games on the playground, swimming lessons, and parents’ evenings. There is a kicker to this as well. During the holy month of Ramadan they would want specific things banned. These things include: no teaching of science that deals with sex, exams and immunizations, parents’ evenings, and swimming lessons. The main focus was on the fact of banning swimming lessons for Ramadan. Why? Because they are not allowed to eat or drink during the daylight hours of this month and the children could accidentally swallow a mouth full of pool water. Also, during the off-Ramadan months, during swimming lessons they would expect boys to be clothed from “navel to neck”, girls would be covered completely (minus face and hands), and they may even ask for same-sex swimming sessions.

Have you heard enough? Well, they sit back and take a breath because I’m not done listing their outrageous demands yet. They also want all contact sports (football, basketball, etc) to be held only in same-sex groups. I’m not talking about the actual football team; I am referring to playing football or any other contact sport in gym or elsewhere during the school day. They even go as far as demanding that field trips be same-sex as well, “to encourage greater participation from Muslim pupils”. But wait…there’s more….

A Stoning that Reeks of Biblical Times

January 31st 2007 19:09

And you thought adulterers in the US could have it bad by causing things such as divorce, lawsuits, jail time, or even getting the beating of a lifetime. Well, be glad you’re not in Pakistan. Apparently 2 “lovers” in their 40’s were dragged from a house then tied by the neck with rope to a tree and then beaten about their heads with bricks and stones. Apparently the 2 were not married and were caught sleeping together. So what could the woman’s brother do but string her and the man up and kill them by stoning. That’s wonderful. He even told the police that he worked with other family members on this plan to discipline the “sinners”. He called it an “honor killing”.

After writing a blog about the Muslim groups in the US “turning out” against the Fox hit show 24, I decided to take a look around to see if there could possibly be any other show that may offend them but don’t seem to care about one way or another. The reason I did this was because it is clear that the Muslim community, in general, does not like Fox to begin with and after complaining about 24 yet again, I began to think it was a little odd. I started to wonder if it were only specific groups they were hammering and more or less US groups and companies only. I wondered why you don’t hear CAIR making demands at Qantas air or the CBC in Canada. Well, the following may give you some of the answer.

Who Cares About Racial Profiling?

January 18th 2007 16:08
This Picture Says it All.

Recently (this week) I have written a couple of news articles for a site that I freelance with. The reason I am blogging about it here on my Alternative Faith site is because the 2 articles have to do with religion. Earlier this week a man was awarded $400,000 by the courts in Boston. American Airlines was found guilty in an incident where the man of Portuguese decent was removed from a flight, along with the 2 Israeli men beside him. The “authorities” questioned him for 2 hours and then the airline REFUSED to put him on another flight. He sued because of supposed “racial profiling” and has been awarded a total of $400,000 in damages.
