MERRY MEET AND GREETINGS...

March 27th 2008 15:05

Welcome to Alternative Faith. I have taken on the task of being the new moderator of this site and will be posting many thoughts, ideas, insights according to me. Grin. I welcome you to explore this site and add your comments as you feel inspired, but also understand this is not a venue to vent your hatred or prejudices. This is a venue toward understanding and peace. So with that said...Welcome and I look forward to a long journey with you.

It is exciting and a little daunting to have ones own web site that will be seen by hundreds, perhaps thousands of readers. Along with the queasy feeling one gets when embarking on some new adventure, is the thrill that perhaps one or two people will find something worthwhile in what you've had to say. Just maybe , someone will glean a nugget of wisdom, or a shred of insight from a few words that you've penned or written. That is my goal on this site called Alternative Faith. To share what we can with one another and to join with others in the pursuit of something more.

I am Michelle White Willow, Michelle is my given name while, White Willow is my chosen name. I have been an eclectic Wiccan for many years now, but have a deep and abiding respect for all religious beliefs. Throughout this format, I will attempt to inform others about my own lifestyle (I say lifestyle rather than religion), because being wicca or pagan means you've made an intentional choice to follow a diferent path and live a different lifestyle. Maybe this new path is the one that makes more sense to you and if truth be told, has been calling to your for a while, and maybe you'd like to find out more without joining an online school. If you're not ready to sign up but want to know more, you've come to the right place. Be at ease and be welcome.

So with that being said, I will end this brief introduction and will be posting more very shortly.
May you walk in the light and...Blessed Be

White Willow

Saint Chuck

July 9th 2007 20:51

Yes, I have decided to come back because I so love to give everyone my opinion on various religions. So I’m sure there are some of you that are happy to see me back, I’m sure there are other (that shall not be mentioned) that had hoped I had crawled away and stayed hidden under a rock. Well, too bad for them.

I decided that blogging gives me the freedom of speech without having to watch my grammar and so forth. I enjoy freelance writing, but I found that my blog here gives me some peace of mind too. Besides, I couldn’t stand sitting by and reading about the idiots that live on this planet without commenting on it.

So with that said, the first person on my new list is one Mr. Charles Colson. He is the founder of Prison Fellowship (a Christian outreach ministry) and a contributing writer for “On Faith” at the Washington Post. I wrote an actual article about something this guy brought up. Now I have to vent about what he has said.

Of course, ‘ol Chuck, in his loving Christian state of mind decided to begin his article by linking Paganism with “new age style nature worship, pantheism, witchcraft, and human sacrifice”. I can deal with the first one about being a nature worshipper…who really cares since a lot of people are “going green” now. Now for those of you not familiar with the term “pantheism” it means you basically think that God and nature is one in the same, so therefore you are seen as having a spiritual relationship with nature. So far Chuck hasn’t hurt my feelings, but let’s continue.

The next one was witchcraft. Um, hey Chuck…news flash ….NOT ALL PAGANS USE WITCHCRAFT. And just in case you have never read any of my other blogs or articles I have written elsewhere, all Pagans are not witches, all witches are not Wiccan, and so forth. It’s kind of like saying that since Chuck is Christian he should follow what the Pope sets forth for Catholics…they’re all “Christian” after all, right?

Anyway, finally Chuck hits the biggest no-no by listing Pagans with human sacrifice. It’s interesting to know that he can list Pagans as being nature worshippers yet they are also involved in human sacrifice. I don’t really get that leap.

So what is good ‘ol Chuck’s beef with Pagans anyway? Well, he doesn’t seem to think that Wiccans and Pagans in general should be allowed to have the service of tax-payer paid chaplains. So really it’s okay if he waltzes into a hospital to offer his “services” and have the citizens of the US pay for it through our tax dollars, but not a Pagan or Wiccan? Hmmm, I think he’s got a case of his crap-don’t-stink-syndrome. The funny thing is that he didn’t stop there. He goes on to say that “The more difficult question is whether I would vote for a pagan for public office.” He actually stated this in the very next paragraph without even so much as taking a breath.

But what was his answer to that question? “On one hand I fully respect the fact that there should be no religious test for public office; on the other hand, I would have great difficulty supporting an explicit Wiccan or pagan for high public office.” He then goes on to talk about our founding fathers and our values of the Judeo-Christian traditions. Blah blah blah….

At any rate, by the time he gets all of this out of his system he resorts to back peddling so he doesn’t come across as a discriminatory. “Not being as familiar with paganism in its various forms, I do not wish to condemn it unfairly. But from what I know of it, I do not think it can provide the “indispensable supports” Washington wrote about.”

And finally when he decides to end his so-called “article” he decides to add in: “So I would not appoint pagan chaplains, nor would I, as a personal decision but influenced greatly by the founders, vote for a pagan.”

Reading drivel like that, as Glen Beck would say, “makes blood shoot from my eyes”. I was raised Christian and was taught to be kind and loving and forgiving of others. Do unto others and so forth. So when I read things like this from a supposed “Christian” I step back and wonder if I was taught wrong my entire life. Where does his Bible say that you should constantly brow beat and bash Pagans or other religions that don’t follow your God? I’m sure someone can pull some sort of Bible verse from the “good book” and throw it at me, but it really wouldn’t matter. It’s hard to believe that Jesus supposedly protected a prostitute from being stoned to death by stating “Let he without sin cast the first stone”, yet we have self-proclaimed Christians like Charles Colson that don’t even think twice about casting stones at other religions.

Well I guess that proves it…Chuck is without sin and should be added to the long list of Saints. Somebody call the Vatican! We have our next candidate for Sainthood. I’m sure he’s performed miracles. Heck if they won’t do it then I’ll nominate him as a cyber saint. Keep your eyes out for the up and coming Cyber Saint Chuck Colson.

Blessed Be

Give Me a Break

March 8th 2007 14:59
They need to start passing these out to selected Troopers in MD.
Apparently in Conowingo, MD the authorities were called in to take a look at 2 cauldrons a hiker had found in the local woods. One contained a human skull and 2 thigh bones while the other contained a rubber snake, plastic skull, a crucifix, handcuffs, a rat trap, and statues.

Why do I say “give me a break”??? Because of the comment in the report that said “We don’t know if this was a serious PAGAN ritual or just a prank”. Seriously? This came out of the mouth of a Maryland State trooper. They actually show the local news footage on the news website and the reporter went to talk to a local metaphysical shop owner. The poor girl. She had to say what a cauldron was actually used for in Pagan traditions and the look on her face when they were asking her about a possible connection was just priceless. She was probably thinking 2-fold with this one….free publicity of her shop but yet another list of stupid accusations based at Pagans…all because they found this stuff and she owns a shop that sells cauldrons.

Well, I guess it goes to show that State troopers aren’t as smart as they seem….I’m trying not to laugh at that statement. I guess they skipped over the theology classes in Trooper training school….maybe they should look into implementing it in the future.

Give Me that Old Time Religion

February 15th 2007 16:09
The Sanctuary of Zeus
After 16 centuries of the Greek Gods being cast aside and not being worshipped, they are once again in the spotlight of religious icons. Greek Pagans have begun worshipping the Greek Gods and Goddesses once again. Needless to say, the Orthodox Church is none too happy.

On February 1st, Doreta Peppa entered the Sanctuary of Zeus, wearing a flowing white robe and garland laced in her hair. Along with her were a group of people dressed as warriors and nymphs. The scene seemed like it had been ripped out of a Hollywood movie, but it was actually a homage to the great Greek Gods. Doreta began speaking Orphic hymns then raised her arms upwards and announced her devotion and love to the Gods of Mount Olympus. This had not been done since the 4th century, especially since the Christian Roman state outlawed the practice of Paganism.

Shame Shame...God is Watching.

There is a guy named Robert Benjamin that has a blog called End Time Prophecy News. He recently wrote a blog about a survey company called the Barna Group. They did an end of year write-up on the 12 most significant religious findings of 2006. According to Mr. Benjamin, the highlight of the research stated how 3 out of 4 teenagers took part in some sort of activity that was related to psychic abilities or Witchcraft. The activities the research group was referring to was using a Ouija board, reading books on Wicca and Paganism, or having a professional do a “reading” for them. Mr. Benjamin then goes on to talk about how 3 out of 10 teenagers that attended church had been taught anything about the evils of the supernatural last year

Harry Forever, Mallory No More

December 15th 2006 16:15

Finally, the battle against Harry Potter that has been raging in Georgia has been ended. I blogged earlier about the case against Harry Potter. Laura Mallory, certifiable Christian wacko and mother, wanted the school board to remove the Harry Potter books from the school library and be replaced with the Left Behind series. Why? Not only because she’s nuts and a fundy, but also because she thinks that the books promote Wicca and witchcraft…which apparently is the root of all evil. So instead of spending quality time with her children and educating them on what she deems to be right and wrong, she decided to go on this escapade to get Harry banned from the schools. If at first you don’t succeed, right? That must be her motto. She lost the battle once back in May and decided to appeal and try again.

Christians -VS- Pagans Round 200,000

December 7th 2006 21:21

Here we go yet again, another problem in a public school where it is the Christian righteous versus the Pagan heathen. According to an article in a Charlottesville Virginia news line, a group of Christian students had tried to pass out flyers at Hollymead Elementary School a while back that had to do with vacation bible school. They were trying to use the “backpack mail” process where the kids take info back home to the parents. But because the school had rules in place forbidding it, they were not allowed to do so. UNTIL a father of one of the children contacted Jerry Falwell to go after the county. At that point, the school board reversed their decision and allowed the distribution of the flyers, and deemed it okay for all religious groups to do the same.

Great Alternative Videos From You Tube

November 28th 2006 16:20
It’s been a little slow on the actual “news” front in religious town, so I’ve decided to go scouting on the internet for other interesting things. I stumbled across a really cool section of You Tube with some really great videos of all things Pagan and Wiccan. Here are some of the sites: (Be advised there may be brief pictures or paintings of nudity from time to time. They are not my videos.)
