Christians -VS- Pagans Round 200,000

December 7th 2006 21:21

Here we go yet again, another problem in a public school where it is the Christian righteous versus the Pagan heathen. According to an article in a Charlottesville Virginia news line, a group of Christian students had tried to pass out flyers at Hollymead Elementary School a while back that had to do with vacation bible school. They were trying to use the “backpack mail” process where the kids take info back home to the parents. But because the school had rules in place forbidding it, they were not allowed to do so. UNTIL a father of one of the children contacted Jerry Falwell to go after the county. At that point, the school board reversed their decision and allowed the distribution of the flyers, and deemed it okay for all religious groups to do the same.

So now enter the Pagans. A local Unitarian-Universalist church decided to go the same route for this holiday season and pass out flyers for a local celebration. You can already see where this is heading, right? More or less parents and local Christian church pastors tried their best to “play nice” and then of course add their derogatory thoughts and comments into the mix. A local Christian woman named Cathy posted some comments on her blog. This is what she had to say about the invite:

“The sender(s) of this information call it an "educational program for childeren [sic] of all ages." Well, this "educational program" is to be followed by a pagan ritual. That's an educational experience my children don't need.

Perhaps they thought including a cross and a Star of David would make their pentagram seem acceptable. It isn't. It only shows they don't know what "holidays" are being celebrated this month.
I don't know -- yet -- what to do or who to talk to but I will not step aside.”

I have an idea what she can do about it. How about stop complaining about it for one? I would like to thank her for promoting the upcoming event on her blog site by writing about it though, even though it is in the negative. But seriously, when are Christians going to start playing nicer with the rest of the world? Yes, Christianity is one of the biggest religions in the US but in the rest of the world it is not. They need to get off their high horse and just calm down. I know, I know…there are also wackos and the outspoken in the Pagan community as well. It just seems there are more in the Christian following than the Pagan following.

So let’s look at another example of a response to the flier. This is what Pastor Jeff Riddle of a local church said on his blog. Does everyone on the planet have a blog now or what???

“This kind of note adds weight to the argument that it is high time for Christians to leave public schools for reasonable alternatives (homeschooling and private Christian schools).”

And

“note the zeal of pagans to "take back" Christmas.”

He also went as far as warning Christians against pushing the act of returning prayer to school. He said if this happened then there was no assurance that it would be a Christian leading the prayer. It could be *gasp* a Pagan! Oh what ever! I’m starting to reach my limit with all of the Christian fundies waging war against everyone but their own.

Here’s an example of why I’m starting to really dislike the Christian fundies: Isn’t it ironic that some Christians look down upon Muslims, when some Muslims have been known to make comments such as everyone in the world needs to convert or be damned or slain? Sounds ironic to me. I know that was an extreme example but Christian evangelicals are notorious for trying to convert people at any cost. It’s sad that even around the holiday season they can’t stand to show any love, peace, or acceptance to anyone but their own kind of “people”. It’s a never ending battle, and even after all of the work that has been done lately to bring everyone together, I still can’t see an end in sight. I have posted the link to the flyer below. Please take a look at it and notice that it does state “Come for one OR both parts and bring your curiosity”. So it’s not like they were trying to fool anyone into coming for the entire celebration, especially since they stated that the ritual would FOLLOW. And if anyone lives in this area, please give your support and try to attend!

wow this certainly is an interesting site I stumbled upon. For the record, I am a "FUNDI" BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN AND I will not apologize for it. Second, I don't shove my beliefs at anyone or down anyones throat. I simply do as Jesus did and I love people, whether it is Christmas or not. I know plenty of other "fundi's" who do the same. We are called to love, not hate, but we are speaking the truth in love to those who seek God, the only God, the One True God. As for the people who would rather point fingers and name call, I am sorry that they give us all a bad name. We are called to love our neighbors as our selves, period. I don't look down on anyone, I pray for the lost who don't know JESUS, and who don't understand that this is not the end, there is a Heaven and a hell and where you spend eternity is the most important issue. If loving people is a crime then I guess me and my "fundi's" are guilty as charged.

I have a reply to the anonymous comment from December 30th 2007. Isn't it ironic how you state you don't shove your religion in peoples' faces and then go on an almighty rant about how your god is the only god there is and how your religion's right and everybody elses is wrong, and how you make it sound like you know by fact that what you think is the only answer to anything, that nobody but Christians could possibly be correct? You have every right to believe in what you wish to believe in, just as we Pagans do, and we deserve the same respect that we show you, by not having our people go door to door trying to sell our religion to people, degrading the religion itself. Christians should stop trying to make people convert at all costs and should just leave all the other religion-based people alone and in peace. We don't want your religion, we have our own, thanks.
An' it harm none, blessed be.

That since the beginning...when man began to believe in something "other" than himself, that there has been a conflict. There is NO one god, if you do your homework...you'll see that while religions were forming, all over the world the deity's were called by seperate names. Depending upon what place in the world you lived, that was by what name you called "god." It matters not one wit to me what you choose to call your god...It seems to me that Christianity preaches tolerance, love and patience. However, most of the acolytes of the Christian faith, are hard pressed to behave in the mannar in which Jesus taught them. Jesus was a magician, a healer and waaayyyyy before his time. I would have loved to meet him and learn from him. Was he the son of god? In the fact that we all carry a spark of the divine within us...absolutely! But from the standpoint of him being the ONLY Son of God...Sorry, can't buy that story. And after all, isn't what you've been taught, all a story...comes from a book, written by man, subject to interpretation, and the rest...well, that's been told to you since you were a child. I know about the rehetoric and dogma of Christianity...I was raised Catholic!!! I don't come from a place of ignorance...I have done my due diligence. I dare any Christian to actually learn about the history of their religion...to trace back in time to the Crusades, the TRUE story of how Christianity came to be...not some glossed over BS story that the Christians themselves wrote, but unbiased, and uncensored..then come and speak to me with a modicum of knowledge about that which you speak of. Christianity was a thousand years in the coming...It was long, it was bloody and anyone who didn't want to become a christian, was mowed down, literally tortured, burned at the stake, drowned or imprisioned for the rest of their lives. The atrocities that the Christians carried out over those thousand years were unspeakable. I do not try to save anyone but myself, each of us is on our own path to enlightenment. Each of us must take responsibility for our actions and our deeds. No devil can "make me do", what I refuse to do. We do not believe in the devil, as prior to Christianity, there was NO SUCH ENTITY!!! He's your monster, you deal with him. I can go on and on, about how misinformed you really are, however, it will do no good. The point is...there is no need to worry and pray for the pagans...we recognize a higher power, we believe in the divine...just as you do...We will be just as saved as you will. But while you believe you will go to heaven, we believe that we will move along to the next lifetime to learn more of what is necessary to grow closer to the god/dess of all.

P.S. We try to respect all religious beliefs...yours too, however I regret to say that there is no such reciprocity issuing from other religions. If pagans sound a wee bit bitter toward your religious cause, it's probably because many of us came from a non-pagan background and found it, at least for us, to be lacking.

To the July 14th anonymous, I admire your point of view on things. I happen to be from a Pagan background, as my parents and grandparents and many generations before that were also Pagan, but yes, alot of today's Pagans are fairly new. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as they know what it is they are talking about having to do with our religion before they call themselves ours. I believe a big reason as to why many of the Christians believe "Satan" is a part of our religion, is because Christians go satanic and then call themselves Pagan. It's annoying. But as long as they atleast know what Paganism is really about, whatever. But anyways, people (no matter what their religion is) should research (at a reliable source, perhaps someone who has the religion) a religion before hating it. Some people don't do that though, unfortunately. Catholics and Christians have every born right to believe what they believe in, so do we. Pagans would have no problem with Christians anywhere if Christians weren't so caught up in their own bullshit. Their thought that their religion is the only route to anything good. Their motto is apparently "Either be Christian/Catholic and believe in Jesus and love him and make your life about kissing his ass or your gonna burn in hell". Some of them have their heads so far up their asses, I'm suprised they're not choking on their heads. It's all ignorance. Ofcourse, not all of them are that way, their are alot of nice Christian people out their, the ones that don't take their religion to an extreme and demanding level. But the majority of them is staggoring.
