Alternative Faith - March 2007

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in the world of religious news. Maybe it was a result from the lunar eclipse a couple of weeks ago, but the Pope decided to write a book about Pope John Paul II. In the book he stated that he thought Bob Dylan (yes, the singer) is a “false prophet”. This all came from a concert that Dylan performed at in front of John Paul years ago. Needless to say, Pope Benedict is a very “interesting” character. You can go HERE to read the full story.

More recently in the news is a Reverend in Miami, FL that is staking his claim on being the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. Apparently he has approximately 100,000 followers in the US and parts of Latin America. Many of the followers, especially the Hispanic followers, tend to give this “man” nearly half of their income. So while people are struggling he is “blinged out” in gold and diamond jewelry and a very nice suit. The front page of the website for the church is mostly an enormous picture of the good Reverend, who by the way used to be a heroin addict. You can go HERE to read the full article on his “holiness”.

In other news and “chit-chat”, it seems that since Cameron released the “Tomb of Jesus” on the Discovery Channel Christians are beginning to vent about how much they are being persecuted over the past couple of years. After being hounded and slammed by atheists and people in other religious groups they are beginning to stand up and ask “why me”? I guess it was okay when Jews, Pagans, and Muslims were being ridiculed….but when Christianity has been questioned and “bashed” then it’s just not right.

There are several other things going on recently as well, but I will refrain from blogging about them since I am in somewhat of a time crunch this week with moving and school work. One of the topics is the new movie “300”…apparently Iranians are up in arms over the way Persians are depicted in the movie….like you didn’t see that coming. It seems to me that nobody is allowed to say or do anything to offend anyone on this planet. So much for right of creativity and freedom of speech.

Give Me a Break

March 8th 2007 14:59
They need to start passing these out to selected Troopers in MD.
Apparently in Conowingo, MD the authorities were called in to take a look at 2 cauldrons a hiker had found in the local woods. One contained a human skull and 2 thigh bones while the other contained a rubber snake, plastic skull, a crucifix, handcuffs, a rat trap, and statues.

Why do I say “give me a break”??? Because of the comment in the report that said “We don’t know if this was a serious PAGAN ritual or just a prank”. Seriously? This came out of the mouth of a Maryland State trooper. They actually show the local news footage on the news website and the reporter went to talk to a local metaphysical shop owner. The poor girl. She had to say what a cauldron was actually used for in Pagan traditions and the look on her face when they were asking her about a possible connection was just priceless. She was probably thinking 2-fold with this one….free publicity of her shop but yet another list of stupid accusations based at Pagans…all because they found this stuff and she owns a shop that sells cauldrons.

Well, I guess it goes to show that State troopers aren’t as smart as they seem….I’m trying not to laugh at that statement. I guess they skipped over the theology classes in Trooper training school….maybe they should look into implementing it in the future.

Well, we have famous poster boys for various other religions and now Islam will have Michael Jackson as there supporting figure. I’m sure they’re thrilled with this. I know, some of you are reading this and thinking that it’s still just speculation. Well, according to the Post, he actually confirmed his conversion to Islam to the Panorama (an Arab-Israeli newspaper in the Middle East). The king of pop has apparently announced that he has bought property in Bahrain and will also be moving there.

Islam is not a stranger to the Jackson family, however. Michael’s brother Jermaine is Muslim and has been since 1989. Supposedly Michael began asking his bro some questions about Islam shortly after he was acquitted of child abuse in 2005. So why is Michael converting or at least thinking of converting? (I say “thinking”, since he has not publicly announced his conversion and at this point I still consider it word of mouth) Could he want to convert and move to the Middle East because they have more lenient laws about children and so forth, or is it because he actually wants to be more good and peaceful? I am hoping it is for the peace and goodness, but it’s so hard to say.

So, even though there are other famous Muslims in the US, why will Michael be their poster child? Well, because he’s so “out there”. Mohammed Ali is getting a lot older and not in the public eye as much. Michael on the other hand can’t stand to stay out of the public eye. So if he actually has or will convert, all Muslim the world over should welcome their newest brother…Michael Jackson.

Let’s take a peek at some of the other famous figures that support other religions. The Catholics have Mel Gibson, the Jews have SEVERAL and too many to list, and the Scientologist have Tom Cruise in all his wacky glory.

So good for Michael and good for the US. He will be taking up residency in Bahrain and will no longer be here in our country. Quite frankly, I find everything about him creepy, but that’s MY opinion. Now he can be there problem, if a problem were to arise. Do you think he might start singing in Arabic or Farsi as well? And I think that may explain part of the reason why he covers the faces of his children, but I won’t go into why he actually covers them. And, do you think he will dress as a male Muslim or a female…or will he mix it up? So many questions and so many answers to be given…

Anyway, I’m sure somebody will read this and get riled up since I made the comment about the Middle East having more lenient laws about children and other things. It always seems that the truth always makes people angry and gets them up in arms over various things. Quite interesting really.
